Inventory: Necklaces #5.
Shell pendant cast in cuttlefish bone.
Cuttlefish bone is soft and chalky—you saw the bone in half and then either carve a design or press an object into it to make a mold. After making a channel for the molten silver, you wire the two halves back together and pour the liquid silver into the mold. The “wet sand” pattern is from the bone itself.
Inventory: Earrings #1
Scrollwork earrings loosely based on 5th-6th century earrings from the Mediterranean. Sterling silver.
Photographing some of my practice work from silversmithing classes from the last couple of years…
Inventory: Necklaces #4.
Made this pea pod necklace in one of my first classes—beginner’s luck! The peas are copper—wish I hadn’t polished them for the photos, as they get a lovely dark orangey-red patina.
Inventory: Necklaces #2
Shell collar necklace. Inspired by Tanel Veenre’s lovely collars. Should have used a bigger clasp—this is heavy!
Inventory: Necklaces #1
No silver work here (except for clasp), but a few necklaces from the last few years.
Inventory: Rings #2
Photographing some of my practice work from silversmithing classes from the last couple of years.
Stone setting, granulation, scrollwork.
Labradorite ring with granulation, inspired by Italian renaissance jewelry.
Tri-band ring—three rings soldered together, with silver and copper granules applied. Needed more/larger silver/copper balls—didn’t quite achieve the look I wanted.
Scrollwork ring. A pain in the butt to make. Wear it every day!
